My Axewrap Project

Unlimited Customization For Your Axe!

Welcome everyone to another exciting article from your’s truly!  Speaking of exciting, I’m very excited to announce the release of the video above: my very own newly Axewrapped guitar.  If you’ve never heard of Axewraps before, you’re in for a treat.  Axewraps.com is a place you can order custom graphics to put on the face of your guitar — without permanently changing your look!

Imagine:

  • Being able to customize the look of your axe without having to spend tons of money on a custom paint job and finish!
  • Not having to worry about it being permanent!  Axewraps come off easily with no messy, sticky residue left behind!
  • Having unlimited customization options: Everything from Eddie Van Halen graphics, to George Lynch graphics, to your own custom logo (like I did for my Texas Blues Guitar logo) or favorite band!
  • The ability to choose a graphic based on your type of guitar (available for Fender(R) Stratocaster(R), Telecaster(R), Gibson(R) SG(R), Les Paul(R) and many other models)!

It’s all possible with Axewraps.com!

What you will need:

  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Polishing Cloth (preferrably lint-free) or Paper Towels
  • Philips head screwdriver (small and large)
  • Small flathead screwdriver (for removing tone knobs)
  • Scissors
  • X-Acto(TM) Knife
  • Cutting/Backing board (if not supplied)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire cutters (for removing strings)
  • Masking Tape
  • Ruler or straight-edge (for applying Axewrap & removing bubbles)

The Process

It will be different for everyone, I’m sure.  I was a complete beginner, but I ended up spending much more time applying mine because, as is seen in the video, I ended up need to re-solder a loose wire in the electronics.  I recommend scheduling at least 2 hours — 2 1/2 to be on the safe side — if you’re going to commit to the project.  It is a commitment and you don’t want to leave it half finished once you start.

Make sure you watch the video above and the official videos below and do your research before starting.  I can’t stress the importance of this enough.  I did my own application only after watching these videos as well as several from other YouTube users that had uploaded videos of their own Axewrap application.

Take your time above all!  Don’t try to rush the process (this is why I recommend at least 2 hours).  You’ll regret it if you do when you end up making a mistake.  Axewraps are durable, but you don’t want to wear out the stickiness of the vinyl by repeatedly lifting it where you’ve messed up.  Put on some background music, relax, and by all means video tape it if you can (keep a spare battery on you) and post your own video.

The video is and hour and 13 minutes, so there’s plenty of detail, but I did speed up the sections where I’m doing the actual work so you don’t have to sit and wait.  There’s even some great bluesy background music during these sections to keep you occupied.

The Finished Product

If you’ve taken your time and followed the included instructions as well as did your research by watching these supplied videos, then you’ll be proud of your new axe.  You did it!  Now go show it off to your envious friends who will no doubt wish they had as cool a “paint job” as your guitar now has!

It was a nice feeling for me knowing that after I had finally finished everything that I only had to do this once.  That made it even more worth the time invested.  Now, my guitar does my advertising for me by displaying my Texas Blues Guitar logo on every video (if you’re subscribed to my Totally FREE Guitar Newsletter then it may be a while before you see any videos with the new look)

Just in Case…

If you decide to remove your Axewrap later on, it’s an easy task.  However, I recommend you make sure you order the correct one in the first place, because you don’t want to be ripping off a $35+ product unless you really have to!

Check out this video to see just how easy it is to remove your Axewrap:
